If there’s anything that shows the widening chasm of our political divide, it’s this. The voting is tribal, even against personal interest. And polls have shown that poorly educated and informed voters have voted overwhelmingly for Trump, testimony to his ability to convince them with lies and distortions.

Representative Cliff Bentz has signed onto a letter with a small group of other Republicans promising that if there are public land sales in the budget reconciliation package, they will vote no on the entire thing.

I don't believe him, not for a skinny minute. I don't believe the rest of them, either. Their antipathy toward public lands and the public weal is exceeded only by their fear of Trump.

Ditto for any promises to protect healthcare, nutrition, or human rights. There is not a scintilla of courage or compassion in a carload of them.

I would be delighted to be proven wrong about their promises.

Bentz is an ardent Catholic. The U.S. Council of Bishops calls the provisions in the "Big Beautiful Bill" that call for cutting health care and nutrition, and increasing pollution, immoral. Let's see what Bentz does.

Cliff Bentz denies their butt ugly bill will cut Medicaid, so maybe his constituents won’t notice when it does. Living in denial is their M.O. They only believe election results they like. They believe illegal immigrants were eating our cats and dogs. They believe Trump is only deporting vicious criminals. In other words, they believe whatever they want, regardless of the facts. So, as Republicans make the poor poorer, the rich richer, deprive millions of their healthcare and increase the cost for millions more, all while increasing the debt and deficit, maybe they can convince themselves it isn’t really happening – as they do with climate change.

I wish the consequences of MAGA madness only affected Trump and his supporters, but unfortunately that isn’t the way it works.

More my frustrated gene. I've put a lot of work / resources into getting better access to cancer screening (along with many other people and many organizations) ... all of that work was starting to pay off and now it's all going away. I've had people say to my face that cancer screening should be free AND that universal healthcare is a communist plot. ???

Cliff has repeatedly said that Medicare/Medicaid will continue to cover our citizens that qualify. Hopefully working to improve the coverage, simplify, and fiscal management. Oregon took a large chunk of money to create the Oregon Health Plan as they set it up. There are those of us who that said it is not sustainable as it was set up then. Hospitals are nearing disaster under the current system and income, someone needs to fix a very broken system. Could it be President Tump, history will certainly tell us. In the meantime he will be President for another three years only because the powers to be failed to run a canadidate that the public could support. We now have the Politics of Oregon Working to discredit Congressman Cliff Bentz with very misleading ads and letters to the editors in an organized campaign. I would think all of us would agree that the mismanagement and fraud are rampant in Oregon at all levels of Government. We need to make sure our Tax money is not wasted and truly help those in need and is spent wisely. The fear that is being spread is hurting everyone and negativity does no one any good. I truly value having an elected official to be in the majority and all Democrats should be concerned about super majorities as they are dangerous to everyone. Cliff Bentz is a credit to Oregon and an extremely valuable member of the Oregon Delegation. Let’s all work together instead of tearing us apart!

What is happening to our country is frightening. I believe it all boils down to lack of education. The majority of Trump's supporters are uneducated. They do not know what the Constitution says or what it stands for, and most definitely do not understand whey our founding fathers knew the importance of separation of the three powers, i.e., Legislature, Executive and Judicial branches, not to mention that all three are equal.

Makes one yearn for the good old days, like 1923 when Oregon’s Republican governor Walter M. Pierce was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Boy do I miss those days.

You refuse to acknowledge actual, legitimate legal determinations. There is no sexual abuse, there is no criminal conviction that withstands appeal. Just ask Professors Dershowitz and Turley. You are going to be embarrassed trying to maintain those mistatements.

Facts are facts. Trump is a convicted felon and was found liable for sexual abuse by a jury of his peers. I know you think he's peerless, but you probably think he won the 2020 election too.

Just wait on criminal case. You will have to eat crow Mike. The civil case was made up, the gal couldn't remember any details after 20+ years. And, they found the 'screen play' from where she got the inspiration. Megyn Kelly has an entire expose. Look it up 😊 That was no jury of his peers what a joke. 2020 smooth transition of power. (allowed Biden's 4 year disaster.

The jury heard all the facts of the case and know more about it than you or Megyn Kelly. As of now, Trump remains a felon and hasn’t even been tried yet for all the felony indictments related to his illegal attempts to overturn the election. I’d still love to see him held accountable.

If that is what you consider a smooth transition of power then Kristallnacht was just a bunch of boisterous frat brothers out for a party. You may not know this but Notre Dame’s football team got the name “Fighting Irish” in 1924 after they ran the KKK out of South Bend, Indiana with their tails between their legs.

Lower taxes for all under trump tax cuts. Not just the higher income earners. That is a good thing we should support. Reducing the medicaid rolls to the original intention of the law is appropriate. Those who qualify deserve our support.

For the record: the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has determined that as it stands, the bill Trump is trying to pass will increase income for the highest earners and reduce it for the lowest earners.

Newsflash: A party that supports a convicted felon and sex abuser who tried to illegally overturn an election is not “pro America.” Neither is undermining the separation of powers, the rule of law, the Emoluments Clause, etc.
