In some ways, it sounds like AI can resemble real life. You don’t like that it isn’t necessarily accurate. Others might object to it because it doesn’t tell them what they want to hear. For example Grok, the AI developed by Musk, blames Trump and Musk for the loss of life during the flooding in Texas:
Wired Magazine reported that the National Weather Service did their job but there was a delay of several hours before an alert was posted by the local authorities on, of all things, Facebook. The details will come out over time, but this morning I am appreciating all those (sometimes) annoying alerts on my phone issued by Jackson County. Better too many alerts than too few or none at all.
The most notorious example I know is the opium-dream* that AI had in support of RFK Jr.'s anti-vax/anti-science crusade. ("Kubla Khan" was a way better opium dream, I gotta say. Humans are still in the lead.)
Of course, everything bad is trumps fault 😅 the whole thing was a tragedy and, in spite of 9 emergency alerts, many citizens were unable to protect themselves and their families. Very sad, the blame game is not helpful.
Welcome to 1984 and the concept of "doublethink." Orwell's point of "who will mind the minders?" indicates that AI has few, if any, constraints and that its creators (benevolent and malevolent) are now in control. I will avoid resorting to AI, if only because I want to use my brain and judgment for the few years I have left. I'm probably missing out on all sorts of fascinating ideas, typos, and alternative facts.
Plus it requires incredible amounts of energy. New server farms draining our resources are being built before any regulation comes into play. We need a carbon tax so badly and are not likely to get one any time soon.
I don’t use AI for writing, but I do use it for research, as it is a pretty sophisticated search engine. My main problem with it is its lack of reference. As a physician, we always wanted to see a reference to whatever the article was asserting, preferably more than a few. So I usually have to search further than what AI gives me. I’m worried that just as social media has become corrupted with disinformation, often for ulterior reasons, that AI may be used by nefarious players for political and disingenuous purposes.
A quick read did not yield for me an impression that Chat was writing with your voice. The piece reads more like a couple of note cards created to convince the reader than an argument that has some factual evidence. Keep writing, Peter
We all use AI now--or at least, our proxies do: materials science, protein chemistry, novel antibiotics, detection of criminal activity in cryptocurrencies, facial recognition, searching for asteroids and exoplanets, weather modeling, traffic monitoring and modeling, and, thus--most regrettably--laying the foundations of a police state.
I don't need no AI. You, Peter, create clear, understandable short stories. Your polical views on trump are SOFTENING which is refreshing. I trust your readers know we have a big tent. 🎪😂
I remember when the future was: machines would work, and we meat-sacks would write, create music and art.
I guess we still need to write.

I saw that Grok info on another site.

Mike, I don't know grock. My wife is on it regularly.

You talkin' to Grok?

I, for one, welcome our robot overlord...Sir.
