Another takeaway from this primary, despite the existential issues facing us nationally, and the opportunity to enfranchise a major part of the electorate in Jackson and Josephine counties that is currently blocked from voting in primaries, is that the majority of voters couldn't even be bothered to walk to mailbox and drop in their prepaid ballot. Not a good omen for Oregon, America, or the continuation of democracy.
The Bynum campaign lodged a protest against a series of ads supporting McLeod Skinner that praised her "fighting for Medicare for all" and “putting progressive values into action.” The ads ($460,000 worth) were paid by a PAC calling itself Health Equity Now ... which only registered with the FEC on May 3. The Bynum campaign insists Healthy Equity Now is a front for Republican operatives, and laid out a guilt-by-association line of evidence to support its claim (the ad was created by FiDi Media whose Treasurer worked with the Herschel Walker campaign in 2020 and has links to Republican operatives who have been accused of similar actions in other contested races around the country).
McLeod-Skinner says she has never heard of Healthy Equity Now (though she says the ads state the truth about her work) and does not accept corporate or PAC campaign contributions. I've known Jamie a long time, and believe her.
That said, her campaign has accused a PAC calling itself the 314 Action Fund of spending $475,000 in ads supporting Bynum. This is the same PAC that spent $1.3 million in ads against Susheela Jayapal. On May 3, The Intercept reported (https://theintercept.com/2024/05/03/portland-aipac-susheela-jayapal-maxine-dexter/), based on unnamed congressional sources, that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is funneling money for that race through the 314 Action Fund because it opposes Jayapal's sister. AIPAC has endorsed Chavez De-Remer.
She said-she said accusations, aside ... what no one seems to be seeing is the role that large sums of undisclosed money flooding a local campaign at the very end can have. Then there are the media outlets accepting that money and then don't report on it.
Pathetic turnout & people in Jackson County obviously think that the 3 commissioners appointed for a couple thousand residents in the 1800's is perfectly fine for the population increase in 2024, leaving these 3 partisan commissioners in power again & when one of them just doesn't show up, there is no quorum. Absolutely depressing that no one ran against the hack Bentz, although I like the way you spelled his name better under his photo. The guy spends so much time lying about everything from wolves to women's rights while he openly supports sedition & a rapist con man. No respect. After being in Medford, I realized with all of the No signs with the lies on them that this probably wouldn't pass, as it should have to ensure that everyone in our county as representation. Something that scares the right wingers who vote to vote against anything beneficial to our county. Soon we'll be as bad as Josephine county, with their non support of police services in their county.

Very disappointed in my fellow man.
Everyone is missing the elephant in the room.
