Gerald and Peter,

I suggest that as in much of life, this quandary can shift from either/or to both/and. Let's face it, most human adults work for money to support their families, or themselves. There is nothing "bad" or unworthy about working for money. It is also wonderful to "do what you love" as your work, and many people are able to do that.

Here is my both/and applied to this specific blog post. Write for money AND write for the joy of it. In addition to the short plays, you can write the story of your life for your grandchildren. You can write poetry that is never sold in bookstores, but can be shared with friends. You can write to uplift the local community through Ashland.News or another local publication. Writing is one of the ways we can reach out and touch each other's hearts.

Enjoy the process. Peter Finkle
